Program # 5: Transition to Management

Under the current system, Muni employees advance into the ranks of management through a series of competitive exams. This process alone does not give entry-level managers the skills to manage successfully. The Partnership, working specifically with City College of San Francisco, is developing a curriculum tailored specifically to Muni's needs.

This program is open to all employees preparing to take exams for entry level management positions, and to all entry level managers preparing to move up to the next tier. Successful completion of this class will be credited toward the appropriate Civil Service Examinations.

The curriculum includes:

  • Microcomputer Applications for Business
  • Business Math
  • Business Correspondence or Business and Technical Report Writing
  • Customer Service, Conflict Resolution, and Team-Building Skills
  • Health, Safety and Wellness
  • Introduction to Supervision and Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Leadership Skills: Interpersonal Skills.
