Training Program Overview
Successful completion of these training programs will be considered at least partial fulfillment of the requirements for promotion. This aspect of the program is being coordinated with the San Francisco Civil Service Commission. All training provided by City College, with the exception of Program #1 will be credited toward an AA degree, and will be transferable to the California State University System and other institutions. In addition, as larger numbers of incumbent workers receive the training needed to progress into middle and higher rungs of industry career ladders, larger numbers of entry-level job openings will become available for community members. As a second phase of this project, the Partnership seeks additional funds to recruit, train and provide support for new hires starting their own transit industry careers. Potential new hires are being recruited among dislocated workers, youth, and those re-entering the workforce from public assistance and from other sources. Program Details The four training programs below are the product of extensive consultation between Muni and the affected unions, as well as Muni Improvement Fund, City College and the Community Transportation Development Center. They are based on the collective assessment of Muni's long term needs. They provide enhanced opportunities for employees in three major Muni departments - operations, maintenance, and management.
